After an oh so long list of unsuccessful projects like Danity Kane and Day 26, Diddy attempts to revive the music with himself as the forefront.... and mission accomplished. He along with Dawn and Kalenna have taken us on a ride of rollercoaster relationships, dope sounds, "Diddyfied" hooks and layered vocals featuring star-studded artists from Diddy's rolodex such as Chris Brown, Usher, Lil Wayne, Justin Timberlake, Grace Jones, Wiz Khalifa, T.I. and more! Although produced by many different producers, like Polo Da Don and Swizz Beatz the album still manages to have a very cohesive sound, sealed with the ongoing theme of love/hate relationships, sex and romance.
The album begins with a deep electronic intro with deep vibes and Diddy's reverbed voice establishing that "Love is a motherF****." The second track, "Yeah Yeah Yeah You Would" featuring Grace Jones, introduces the album's high intensity with escalating synth sounds and harmonic layers. The next track, piano pounded, "I Hate That You Love Me," continues the dysfunctional relationship theme. "A** On the Floor" featuring Swizz Beatz contributes a marching band sound, very upbeat and verses that are slower over the beat, making you forget how fast the song actually is. (very smart) "Looking for Love" featuring Usher, has a hard beat and a smooth hook, boasting vocally correct. A sampled track, "Someone to Love Me" featuring only Diddy is what would be called a go between track, where the general theme stops for a moment in the middle of the album and then continues. "Hate You Know" the dopest beat I've heard in a LONG time, with a hook that begs, "Don't Go, Don't Go, Don't Go, I Hate You, I Hate You." Chris Brown slows the album down with "Yesterday," a track written by Drake, with an opening line, "Yesterday I fell in Love, Today feels like my funeral." "Shades" features a spoken word entrance from Lil Wayne, followed by features from Justin Timberlake, Bilal, and James Fauntleroy. "Angels," a single, featuring Biggie and Rick Ross, gives the album another feel. "Your Love" featuring Trey Songz definitely makes you dance. Electro track, "Strobe Lights" featuring Lil Wayne and dark lyrics. "Hello Good Morning," another horn blasting hit single, featuring T.I. sets us back on track with a beat that makes us move. "I Know" featuring Chris Brown, Wiz Khalifa and Seven of Rich Girl," a love song, brings us close to the end. "Coming Home" the latest single, featuring Skylar Grey, a painful but hopeful track releases the heart from the hurt. "Loving You No More" including a different and way better bridge then the leaked version of the single, puts the past behind us in the relationship. The deluxe edition includes "Last Night Part II," a spin off of Diddy's "Press Play" album. All in all, "Last Train to Paris" blatantly demands the attention of listeners and will get it. This is one of those rare albums that can be played all the way through from top to bottom with no skip button being pressed, but possibly only the back button. Listen to "Hate You Now" below.
