Now Playing: Ackryte- "Brick Raft"

Soundcloud always hides these hidden gems, from bedroom artists you've never heard of. Isn't it great? He calls himself Ackryte (of Madison, Wisconsin) and the track is called "Brick Raft." I think what gets me is the flute that carries the beat.

Get You Through The Day Track: Bear Mountain's "Swim"

Although its about a year old, I think Bear Mountain's "Swim" is a good match for my "get you through the day" track. Those of you who don't know Bear Mountain, he's a singer/producer from Vancouver. Press play!

Bon Iver's "Towers" Gets A Visual

Bon Iver offers up a a visual for the single, "Towers" packed with nostalgia, beauty and grief. Directed by Nabil Elderkin, the video takes you to a breathtaking place with green scenic angles,  making sadness and solemnity appear beautiful. "Towers" is off Bon Iver's self-titled 2011 debut. After winning a Grammy for Best New Artist only a few weeks back, he makes a great stride forward with this outstanding visual.

Boys Get Hurt Remix Foster The People's "Pumped Up Kicks"

Joseph Somo Covers Drake With A Medley

I've seen many people attempt to cover Drake tracks creatively and well, but Joseph Somo takes the cake. If you know Drake's Take Care album, and appreciated it, then you'll be wanting a copy of this after you hear it. Guaranteed.

Monday Music: Germany Germany Gives Us "Departure" and "Disconnect"

Germany Germany aka Drew Harris surfaced once again after a brief hiatus from music making. In wake of his return he graced us with two new tracks, "Departure" and "Disconnect (feat. Steffaloo)," both resonating with his signature incandescent sound. The two songs come from his upcoming release, Blank Mind, Empty Heart. The album will serve as a follow-up to his Adventures LP released last year.

Track of the Day: Metric's "Help I'm Alive"

Hearing it on last night's Grey's Anatomy had me digging vigorously into my Metric music archives, and really got me into that "I haven't listened to this in a while" train of thought (you know, the one where you listen to everything a band ever came out with until the wee hours, as if to make up for lost time or something). Metric's "Help I'm Alive," comes from their last album, Fantasies, released last year. The band is currently working on their next album, Synthetica, out this coming summer. Its raining here in NYC, so I figured a little light rock would be appropriate. Take a listen below.

Band To Most Definitely Watch: Hey Ocean!

I had never heard of this threesome until I watched last night's episode of One Tree Hill and heard their amazing song, "Islands" in the background, and boy, am I grateful. Hey Ocean! is a Canadian band consisting of Ashleigh Ball (Vocals/Flute), David Beckingham (Vocals/Guitar), and Dave Vertesi (Vocals/Bass). Creating music with life, spirit and harmonic entities that will knock your socks off, Hey Ocean! is able to stand out amongst a crowd of "typical" indie bands, pushing their way to the top with beautiful music. Completely and totally independent, and forming their own label, Pop Machine (along with another band, Said The Whale), they are able to surpass their Canadian borders and share their music with the world. They have released two albums, 2 EPs, a few singles, and already have a new album, IS, coming out this May, on which "Islands," will be featured.

By the way, if you live in Canada, they are on tour now! As long as I get to see them live in New York, at least once, I'll be happy. These three are a must listen trio.  Keep up with them on their super cool website LoveHeyOcean.

Watch a video for "Big Blue Wave" from their most recent Big Blue Wave EP below!

Song of the Day: Seven Stars by Air

I was on Elie Saab's website, watching his latest NY fashion show, unveiling the Spring/Summer 2012 Collection, when I heard "Seven Stars" by Air, playing in the background as the models cat-walked down the runway. I believed it to be suitable for my Song of the Day. The track features stunning vocals from Beach House member, Victoria Legrand. Air's latest album Le Voyage Dans La Lune is available now on iTunes.

TV Music: My Modern Day Radio

Gossip Girl, One Tree Hill, Grey's Anatomy, and Private Practice, Mad Men; all household names for their music placement via Alex Patsavas' exceptional music supervision skills. My music industry professor used to always say that "music supervision is modern day radio without the commercialism." Ain't it the truth.
During last night's 2 hour crossover episode of Grey's Anatomy and Private Practice, Patsavas featured music from Firehorse, Perfume GeniusWilcoKathleen EdwardsThe Donnies The Amys, Tennis and Tika. I'm not sure about you, but this is how I discover my new favorite bands and singer/songwriters...from watching TV. Songs reach a new level of imaginative potential when matched with picture...and sometimes they just sound better that way too. I might not like a certain artist or song, but the minute I hear it placed with one moment in a visual that its perfect for, the song plays a new role.

Alex Patsavas is also the music supervisor behind the Twilight Series, which is why even though the films might not be that great to you, the music always is. Alex Patsavas' full project list can be found over at her site chopshopmusic.com.
Thanks to Tunefind, a music site that lists each song per episode of various hit TV series', we're able to grab these tracks almost simultaneously while watching the episodes or right after they've aired. The site gives links to iTunes and Amazon if you want to make a purchase, as well as giving a preview of the track to make sure that's the song you heard. It's amazing.

Next week, when you're watching TV, listen for the music. You might fall in love with what you hear.

WELCOME TO EKNOWSMUSIC.COM

Thanks for keeping up with me readers! I shortened the website name from elyseknowsmusic.com to  eknowsmusic.com. Thanks for continuing to follow me and my "all over the place" music taste through this time of transition. I'm back for good this time! Play on!

My Music Pick of the Week! "I Love You & Stuff"

I'm extremely picky when it comes to my music. Everyone who knows me, knows that. But with Steffaloo and Black Coffee collaborating, it's hard to let me down. HI54LOFI, put out a collaboration LP for Valentine's Day yesterday, packed with 15 relaxing, coffee shop tracks, including "Falling" from Black Coffee and Stephee Pie. The mix cheekly titled, "I Love You & Stuff" is not only appropriate for Valentine's Day but for the whole year. Stream it HERE. Happy Wednesday.
