Kanye West Unveils His Beautiful Dark Twisted Fantasy
Kanye's fifth studio album, My Beautiful Dark Twisted Fantasy," reveals a different side of the Kanye that we're all used to. Although he still establishes his beats on rare samples, he now appeals to genres of liking besides hip-hop. Heavily influenced by alternative, classical and electronic music, he opens the floor to a larger audience and a wider range. Many listeners say that his music changed after his mother passed away in November of 2007, which was quite obvious with the "808s and Heartbreaks" release a year later. His personality also changed as his cockiness was never to go unnoticed. He lost many of his supporters with the "Taylor Swift" incident, in which he was extremely rude and publicly humiliated her on stage! As his music has become more abstract, dramatic and as some would put it, quite strange, we have a front row seat to the emotional changes in his personal life. The long time Kanye fans might not appreciate, "the fantasy," as much as the newly converted, as they might feel that he lost his classic sound that we all loved on "College Dropout, "Late Registration" and even "Graduation."
On his latest album, He takes us on a ride through his dark twisted fantasies, starting the track list off with "Dark Fantasy," which features a creepy toned, story-telling session by rapper, Nicki Minaj and a backing synchronized chorus repeating, "Can we get much higher? So High!" "Gorgeous," the second track features a hook by Kid Cudi and verses by classic MC, Raekwon and Kanye over a repetitive electric guitar followed by the smash thematic single, "Power.""All of the Lights" is preceded with a string and piano duet "Interlude", that flows into a majestic horn procession and incorporates a hook by Rihanna. "Monster," many leak listeners' favorite, lets us have a short remembrance of the pre "808s" Kanye, with verses by everyone known to man, including Jay-Z, Rick Ross, Nicki Minaj, her many animated voices, and a contrasted breakdown by Bon Iver, an alternative band. "So Appalled" a dramatic rap track, with another slew of rappers over a hard beat, truly channels Kanye's dark side. On a lighter note, "Devil In A New Dress," using a romantic sample from Smokey Robinson's "Will You Love Me Tomorrow" puts us in the mood to slow dance. Finally, we're shoved into another realm inside Kanye's twisted mind, with "Runaway," where he attempts to sing the hook himself. "Hell of a Life" puts us back on the path to the dark side, complete with a riveting, synthed beat and multiple chorused breakdowns. A peacefully, painful portion of the fantasy is finally explored, with "Blame Game," featuring John Legend and a sample from dance pioneer and UK artist, Aphex Twin's "Avril 14." The album ends with an Imogen Heap'd, "Lost In the World" and "See Me Now" (bonus track), where he attempts to capture the spirit of her classically synthesized, "Hide and Seek." He tries to make it slightly different by incorporating a beat, but listener's still caught on to the obvious copycat gesture. Most of the songs on the album were included in his 35 minute short film, "Runaway," released a month before the album, in which the weird gets weirder, with a naked, human bird, deer, another world, and other catastrophically confusing visions. The album is ultimately a spiral of mixed feelings and resembles a strange roller coaster of emotion and one must definitely be caught in a mentally different world when listening to it all the way through. "The Fantasy" begins November 23.

Rihanna's "Loud" is Quiet...
Rihanna's new album, "Loud," out today, falls very short of fantastic with only the singles being the acceptable tracks. Aside from her signature electro tracks, "Only Girl (In the World)," Ester Dean written, "S&M" and "What's My Name," we find that we're stuck with 13 tracks of boredom and fluff music, sloppily put together and not exciting. With such a dope album like "Rated R" behind her, we were waiting with breath that was bated for "Loud" to be equally hammy, but it fell short of our high expectations...Don't get me wrong, there are some mediocre tracks that might get her by, like "Cheers (Drink to that), where she puts on her Bajan accent over an alternative beat, toasting the good times, or Nicki Minaj redeemed track, "Raining Men," but besides that, it's full of sorry excuses for slow songs and no power...smh....o well until next time.
What I'm Listenin' To Right Now!
Girl group Electrik Red's new album fully produced by "The Dream" is jam-packed with "girl's are stronger than boy's" lyrics and "Dreamified melodies..." on 14 tracks of a new sound. We haven't had a girl group to love in a minute so they've come to redeem the 4 star female alliance once again. yay!

Jessie J at Sofitel Hotel (Stone Rose Lounge)
Jessie J at Stone Rose Lounge
By: Elyse Ketura
Tuesday night at the Stone Rose Lounge in Los Angeles was jam packed with UMG execs and associates, drinking blissfully, while waiting in a standing room only, for the talented pipes of British sensation, Jessie J. Free cocktails were provided and named after her song titles in the order she sang them. The showcase was to celebrate her acceptance onto American turf and Universal Republic Recordings. Kelly Rowland was even in attendance to celebrate her friend’s American landing.
Jessie J. finally enters the stage dressed in a punked out trendy outfit, complete with a cropped tee, tight leather shorts, sky-high stiletto heels and blunt haircut. She introduced herself with the most adorable British accent and then wowed us with one of the most powerful voices we had ever heard. She began her set with “Nobody’s Perfect,” a track discussing how she talked about someone behind his or her back and it came back to haunt her via karmic circle. The chorus breathes, “And I hate that I let you down, and I feel so bad about it, I guess karma comes back around, cuz I’m the one that’s hurting…” She then changed the mood to romance and passion with silky track, “LOVE.” Her range expands wide with the melody and chorus and graces us amorously. “Price Tag” seemed to be the crowd’s favorite, as we all vibed out to the Marley-influenced rhythm. This extremely uplifting track reminded us that it’s not about the money, but music lovers “just wanna make the world dance.” She then shocked us all with the powerfully strong, bluesy, “Aguilera on steroids” track, “Momma Knows Best.” Jessie J had this enormous ability to stretch her voice beyond what seemed to be her means and channeled the likes of all the greats, Whitney Houston, Patti LaBelle, and Aretha Franklin. She finished the set with meaningful ballad, "Who You Are," another single, dealing with staying true to yourself always.
Her American single, “Do It Like a Dude,” which has the same concept of Ciara’s “Like A Boy,” comes in so hard, girly girls tune into their masculine side for the remainder of the track. The chorus rings, “I can do it like a brotha, do it like a dude, grab my crotch, wear my hat low like you!” The pulsating beat turns alternative rock fans into gangstas for approximately 3 minutes and 30 seconds, and possibly forever if played on repeat.
Keep an eye out for her debut album coming soon!
