London producer "Gold Panda," has finally blessed us with a digital LP entitled, "Lucky Shiner" through Ghostly International in the U.S. and Notown Recordings in London. Though he has had EPs and other short collaborations, this is his first full length album. The completely instrumental, 11 track set (14, if deluxe with 3 bonus tracks) opens up with, "You" and "Vanilla Minus," a sound resembling a hip, Shanghai underworld and then takes us all over the globe with instrumental electronic grooves such as "Same Dream China," a heavy bell driven whimsical track, "India Lately," and "Greek Style." He even has domestic titles like "Parents," which is a calming, guitar only track, "Snow and Taxis," and "Marriage," which has the best dopest base line I've heard in quite awhile from an electronic mix. These tracks have an energy that we don't experience everyday. His album depicts music and light synths (think of Psaap, but instrumental) as a collaboration and transcends the normal path of electronic music. He uses bells, chimes, electronic drums and electric piano and other quirky combinations throughout the whole set, that will make us bob our heads, but stay relaxed in our seats. He even has darker titles like, "I'm With You, But I'm Lonely," a solemn ode to empty relationships, incorporated with a slow intro and switching to a syncopated drum rhythm. Gold Panda is definitely more fit for the lounge crowd and not the crazy techno heads....it definitely comes highly recommended.
